Spring

Writer's picture: MademMadem

Shut your eyes, breathe in, and take a minute.

What do you smell? I smell spring. Warm rain, bluebells, the smell of sunshine on the wind.

Look around you. What do you see?

Grass poking out of the ground, fighting for life, drinking up the rain. Three little blue eggs, nestled safely underneath their mother. Kids running across the street, bouncing a basketball as they laugh.

Bend down, rest your hands on the ground.

Feel the earth’s heartbeat. The steady beat of life. Grass pressing against skin, sharp and soft at the same time. Damp dirt, little bugs, white feathers.

Listen. Find somewhere quiet and let the world speak to you. It will tell you stories of tall trees, and hidden streams. Secrets that only the birds know, secrets that you can only find in silence, when silence becomes loud.

Taste.

The sweet burst of a blueberry, the sharp cringe of a lemon. The drip, drip, drip of watermelon. And a grin as sunflower shells go flying.

And last, feel.

Feel all these things become one.

The birdsong mixing with the smell of flowers falling from trees, landing softly in your hair as you pick a berry from the bush. The taste of spring, of something new, of leaving colder days behind. The feeling of freedom, of something new right around the corner. Of second chances and sunny days. Of lying on the ground and pointing out stars.

Do you feel it?

One big heartbeat.
